Apples to Apples Game Review
Apples to Apples Party Box – The Game of Crazy Combinations (Family Edition)
In my Apples to Apples Game Review, I will show you how it is a great game with no absolute black and white directions. This can lead to some interesting variations on play… And it’s great for parties!
How to play Apples to Apples
Apples to Apples is a card game of comparisons… There are two kinds of cards, subject cards, and descriptions cards. Everyone takes turn playing judge (or decider), and it rotates around the table.
The judge plays a subject card with names or word on it…the other players put down cards that they have that they believe most closely describe the played card. So… someone plays a card that says..(for example) Sticky. People can put down cards that say… Bubble Gum, Thieves, Fly Paper, Apple Pie and Orange Juice. The judge decides which card best fits Sticky.
Obviously, this is a game that induces discussion (a fancy word for argument). Some of the people in my family (who shall remain nameless… they know who they are) will purposely put down cards that are opposite of the meaning, or just plain silly.
It can be funny, it can be irritating…. depending on if you are a ‘serious player’.
The card chosen is the winner…. and the player who put it down wins the subject card. Then the next person gets to be the judge… and so on around the table. The winner is the first person to collect 5 (or 10 or 397) subject cards… depending on how long you feel like playing.
Who Can Play Apples to Apples?
It’s really a game for everyone. The only trouble we ever found was with cards naming people that the younger crew didn’t know (no… my 9 year old has no idea who Richard Nixon is…) But we make adjustments… and we laugh a lot.
This game works best with 4 or more players.
