Cathedral World Board Game
Cathedral World Board Game is a strategy game for two people. The object is simple, get more of your pieces onto the game board than the opponent. But the game is much more than that! There are two versions of the game… Cathedral World and Cathedral Classic. Both are played the same way, they just look different (and Cathedral World costs a bit more). You decide which you prefer…
Cathedral World Board Game
Cathedral World is such a beautiful game… you will want keep it out on the coffee table all the time.
The game board is around 14 inches square, with a ridge around the edge to hold pieces in. The ridge has a different famous wall carved into each side. The game pieces are shaped like famous buildings and monuments around the world. The details are fabulous. The Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, Christ the Redeemer Statue, St. Basil’s in Moscow, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pyramids and even Bet Giorgis church, Lalibela, Ethiopia. The bottom of each piece has a distinct shape… square, plus, L or other…. Half are dark, and the rest are light.
A grey “people’s piece” represents the people of the world, and is the first piece played.
One player gets the light pieces, the other gets dark. You take turns putting the pieces down on the board (each piece you place must touch another of your pieces)… the winner is the one who gets more pieces on the board.
It’s simple, but there is strategy. Do you start with large pieces or small…? do you play to block the other player…?
Or do you just get the pieces on any way you can?
This is a beautiful game, easy to learn, but with enough strategy to keep it interesting.
And you get a little bit of world knowledge to go along with it.
Cathedral Classic
Cathedral Classic is essentially the same game as Cathedral World… the board is the same size, pieces are two different colors and have the same shapes on the bottom.
Cathedral Classic is made from wood. The pieces feel good in your hands, and are not as fragile as the Cathedral World pieces. Also, they are more generic looking… so no Sydney Opera House… just a regular looking building.
But it plays the same…. you decide what you like better.
